Database Manager (Maternity Cover)
Job Summary
The salary for this full time, fixed term contract is circa £37,000 per annum.
We are a multi-award winning, creative, and innovative organisation and the Database Manager is an important role within War Child UK, maintaining and utilising our database system, Salesforce. We’re looking for an experienced Certified Salesforce user who is adept at project management and understands how to work with stakeholders, identify their needs and is able to maximise the features of Salesforce in order to meet them.
Working in the Data team and wider Supporter Engagement function, the postholder will be the Salesforce Administrator ensuring the maintenance of Salesforce, as well as line managing the Database Assistant and guiding their work in income reconciliation for the organisation. They will provide training for all staff; carry out development marketing and donation integrations, maintain and build automations and flow, and ensure timely preparation of data for marketing communications. Working across a range of teams at War Child, the Database Manager should be a confident advocate for Salesforce and the importance of CRM, to help War Child achieve our goals and provide better service to our donors, supporters participants and staff.
As this is a maternity cover, we’re looking for someone to start in January 2026 until end of December 2026.

Your Role
War Child’s Database Manager is responsible for the day-to-day implementation, utilisation and maintenance of our database, Salesforce. War Child uses Salesforce to manage relationships with our donors, supporters and stakeholders, as well as to manage data relating to the programmes which we deliver. The Database Manager works with all UK teams to ensure Salesforce is fit for purpose and enables day to day donor relationship management, data management, and with the support of the Data Lead, analytics, and reporting. Whilst this role and the rest of the data team services all teams at War Child UK a significant focus will be on the Fundraising & Communications department and especially the Supporter Engagement team who are responsible for recruiting and stewarding individual giving donors. This also includes being the person responsible for the maintenance of a variety of vital automations, integrations and applications which include FinDock, Dotdigital and Campaign Audience Builder. It also includes supporting post-campaign analysis, reporting and creating selections for mass marketing appeals.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the War Child UK Salesforce database. Working closely with Fundraising, Finance and Compliance teams to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
- Oversee the development, maintenance, and optimisation of Automations, Flows, and key integrations, including FinDock (Donation page platform), Dot Digital (email platform) and Campaign Audience Builder.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of our email communications, preparing data according to selection briefs and our audience segmentation.
- Provide guidance to the Database Executive on queries and tickets from across the organisation, and resolving assigned issues promptly through the Salesforce Case Ticketing system
- Coach and regularly meet with a group of Salesforce Champions from teams across the organisation to promote the benefits of using Salesforce properly and consistently, providing specialist advice, training, and technical support.
- Line manage and provide guidance to the Database Assistant, especially in relation to their income reconciliation responsibilities, as well as supporting with the planning and implementation of Data Loader processes.
- Oversee the training programme for new and current staff to ensure consistent and best practice use of Salesforce.
- Ensure the highest standards of data hygiene are adhered to when running data checks and when preparing files for importing/exporting.
- Support the Data Lead with the development, implementation, and maintenance of relevant projects including customisation and development of functionality, and system integration.
- Work with external agencies and stakeholders to successfully complete data projects within agreed timeframes and to a high standard.
- Manage system administration of Salesforce, including user management and safe implementation of updates and new version releases.
- Contribute to creating a culture committed to the safeguarding of children and adults and compliant to WCUK’s Child Safeguarding and Adults at Risk Policies.

You Are
- A Certified Salesforce Administrator (or equivalent through relevant experience with at least one year experience) with knowledge of Salesforce system development, administration, and maintenance.
- Someone with demonstratable experience of developing Salesforce for business solutions.
- Experienced in administering and developing solutions with salesforce-linked email marketingplatforms, and the online donation platform.
- A strong communicator, able to express complex issues in a clear and simple way to non-experts.
- Experienced in extracting data and able to support the analysis of data – with strong attention to detail.
- Process-driven, able to spot solutions to business problems and implement appropriate solutions and database functionality.
- Someone who can manage database-related projects effectively.
- Experience in using Ampscript, APEX and SQL queries is desirable.
- Experience in NPSP is desirable.
- Experience in Excel is desirable.
- A competent user of Microsoft Office applications.
- Committed to Salesforce best practice and staying abreast of developments in the Salesforce platform and wider Salesforce community
- Able to manage a variety of stakeholder requirements and resolve requests in a timely and accurate manner.
